Willy Wonka

Party Themes

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a much-loved book about chocolate and all things sweet.

Although the book’s title features Charlie as the main character, the focus shifted in 1971 to Willy Wonka, the enigmatic owner of the chocolate factory.

He was the inventor of the:

Everlasting Gobstopper

Exploding Candy

Rainbow Drops

Giant Candy Canes

Yellow Flower Teacups

and let us not forget how he churns his chocolate….by a waterfall of course.

This is a theme for the appreciators of chocolate, candy and the book-turned-film that formed cherished memories of a world where anything is possible.

Let’s get into the design for a Willy Wonka themed party.

What better way to start a Willy Wonka themed party than to send Golden Ticket Invitations.

There are some great designs to choose from here on Etsy.

DECOR

Gummy Bears

Red, Yellow, Green Gummy Bears

Wonka’s garden would not be complete without Gummy Bears.

Make them by using a gummy bear mould and hang them from prop trees.

Fizzy Lifting Drink

Bubbles

The Fizzy Lifting Drink scene is fan favourite where Charlie and his Grandfather drink Wonka’s invention only to lift off into the air and have trouble getting back down again.

This movie scene is full of bubbles so hiring this Bubble Volcano machine which throws out edible bubbles would be a great way to recreate the Fizzy Lifting Drink room with the added bonus of being able to taste the bubbles.

Edible Bubble Flavours:

  • Milk Chocolate
  • Banoffee Pie
  • Rhubarb & Custard
  • Mint Choc Chip
  • Strawberries and Cream

Boozy Bubble flavours are also on the bubble menu.

PARTY FOOD

As this theme screams chocolate, here are some chocolate covered and sweet ideas for the party:

  • Golden Egg Chocolate Bark
  • Create Wonka Chocolate Bars with a chocolate mould
  • Sweet Platters (candy canes, gobstoppers, strawberry laces, gummy bears, gold-wrapped chocolate eggs)
  • Chocolate Spread Sandwiches with purple bread
  • Chocolate Fountain
  • Candyfloss Clouds

PARTY DRINKS

Non-Alcoholic

Chocolate milk in milkshake glasses from the iconic Chocolate River is an easy non-alcoholic party drink for this theme.
