Welcome to the 60s!

The era with seriously cool fashion and music that is so good it will be played until the end of time.

When we talk about the ’60s, we might bring up rock and roll, beehive hairstyles, uber-short skirts, the prominence of orange in furniture and fashion, and possibly the significance of Scooby-Doo!

There are so many ways you can do a ’60s theme:

Hippie Retreat

Beatlemania

Woodstock Festival

Scooby Doo Where are You?

Bonnie and Clyde

And the list goes on and on and on……

So let’s get into the design for a Swinging Sixties themed party.

DECOR

Custom Vinyls

Vinyls are a great way to change the appearance of furniture or surfaces to tie into a theme.

Choose a ’60s inspired pattern from a stock image website i.e. iStock and use a Vinyl Designer to create a temporary self-adhesive vinyl. You can then decorate any furniture or surface of your choosing and then peel off the vinyl when the party is over.

Using a stock image website allows you to pick from a wealth of images and graphics that might be well suited to a theme you have in mind.

1960s Furniture

Furniture design in this era had a lot of futuristic attributes and it was not unusual to see Bubble Chairs, Curve Sofas and Panton S Chairs in living rooms.

To capture that 60s vibe, place bubble chairs around a chill-out space and use Panton S chairs around a table for dining.

And if you want to go full-on retro, hire a ’60s TV set for a theme statement piece.

LIGHTING

Lava Lamp

The psychedelic accessory known as the Lava Lamp was trendy in the ’60s and appeared first in Dr Who.

They are a nice touch if you want to create atmospheric lighting in a room, and they can also be used as an unusual centrepiece for a tablescape.

Sputnik Chandeliers

To follow the crazy shaped decor trend, sputnik chandeliers were also popular lighting accessories in homes.

One of these at the centre of a room would definitely be a ’60s throwback.

PARTY FOOD

In the ’60s party food was not technical or overly fancy so preparing food for this theme will be a breeze.

Here are some dishes that can be served at a ’60s themed party:
