Beer Pong is a fun game where hand and eye coordination skills are essential.

Players are split into two teams, and each player takes a turn throwing a ping-pong ball across the table with the intent of landing it in one of the other team’s cups.

If a ball lands in a cup, the team on the side the cup was on must drink its contents and then remove the cup.

Play continues until all cups have been removed from one team’s side. The team with the remaining cups is the winner.

EQUIPMENT

Cups: 22

10 cups shaped in a triangle on each side the table.

2 rinse cups.

Ping Pong Balls: 2

1 for each team.

Table: 8 foot long table

8 foot is the official length of a Beer Pong table, for tighter spaces opt for a 6 foot table.

Bucket: 1

The bucket holds clean water to clean the balls.

SET UP

Location: Indoors is best or fair weather conditions if playing outdoors

Players: Split players into two teams

Table: Use or set up an 8-foot table with plenty of space at either side for players to stand.

Cups:  Place 10 cups in a triangle at either side of the table and fill all 20 cups with 475ml or 16oz of the preferred beverage.

Balls: Set up a bucket (not on the table) with water to rinse all the balls. Keep the bucket on hand to wash any balls that fall.

BASIC RULES

  1. Decide which team goes first. A coin toss will make a quick decision.
  2. Each team takes turns to throw balls into the opposing teams cup triangle
  3. A player’s elbow must be behind the table edge when throwing
  4. A throw can be made, underarm, overarm or alternatively bounce the ball on the table then into a cup.
  5. Every player on a team must throw a ball per round
  6. Cups with a ball in them must be drunk
  7. When there are four cups left on a team’s side, ‘re-rack’ the cups in a diamond shape
  8. When two cups remain, they should be positioned into a vertical line leading towards the other team. One cup should  be approx 2.5cm away from the table’s edge.

WAYS TO MAKE BEER PONG MORE FUN

When it comes to games, people love when a game is made more challenging or fun.

Try out these ideas for a more interesting Beer Pong experience:

Moving Target

  • Set up the cups on a tray with a turntable and spin the tray before a player takes aim.

Smaller Cups

  • Use smaller cups to make its harder to sink the balls.

Blindfolded

  • Blindfold team members to make aiming a little bit harder. This one might be for the seasoned Beer Pongers!

BEST BEERS FOR BEER PONG

The best beer to use for beer pong is a Pilsner, Light Beer or Lager.

Low-alcohol drinks work well so that players can keep their wits about them and enjoy the game.

For those who do not drink or in situations where alcohol is not allowed, use non-alcoholic beer, juice or water.
